Gifts for EV Drivers
Help Your Fave EV Lover Show off Their EVness
It’s that time of year again and shopping is in full force. Why not make your life easier this year by taking some solid recommendations for the EV lover in your life? In the list below are gifts that can lift their spirits, get their blood pumping and some that might be able to help them out of a tight spot.
Formula e Excitement
Formula e is the latest thing in car racing and every bit as exciting as its F1 cousin. If there is a race coming to your area it’s a great time to start following a growing sport. Who wouldn’t love to go check that out? You can get tickets on the official website or if there isn’t a race in your area, check out their official race merch.
Some EV Kindness
Every EV driver can commiserate with being stuck waiting for a charging spot blocked by another driver. Enable the electric driver in your life to show the people in their EV community that they care by communicating, even when they couldn’t quite make it back in time. The EV Etiquette Survival Pack and EV Empower Kit are both great additions to the glovebox of any electric car.
Regardless of how you feel about the Cybertruck, the EV enthusiast in your life may just want to own one someday. It’s an affordable bet to take, with only a $100 (fully refundable) reservation downpayment for the honor of owning one someday. You can make a reservation directly on the Tesla website. Happy trucking!
Wear it With Pride
Who doesn’t love a few (or tons of) tees with a clever message? Get your fave electric driver a way to wear their love of EVs with pride. You can try something simple, like the J1772 tee or go for something a little more grin-worthy like the I spend my gas money on coffee tee. If the EV fan you know is too young to drive, they might enjoy decorating their own tee while they wait.
Whether your favorite EV enthusiast has a home charger or a whole network of them, they can always use more signage. Admittedly not a glamorous gift, but definitely a practical and useful one. If it’s for a public space, be sure to read up on the regulations. Or for personal use try something a little more whimsical like this Violators will be gassed sign.
Almost anyone who drives an EV can probably commiserate with a charging cable that doesn’t comfortably reach. Try getting them a handy J1772 extension cable and make almost any charger accessible. The J1772 is a universal cable connector standard for EV chargers (not as useful for Tesla owners). There are a variety of options on the market and can be purchased where charging equipment is sold.
Most EVs also use a 12V battery to run some basic electronics, including those required to recharge the vehicle’s larger lithium-ion unit. Should both batteries be drained completely, the 12V can be jumped just like ICE vehicles. A an all-in-one jump amp (or a set of jumper cables on a budget) can come in handy in a pinch. This useful tool is good for any driver and can be purchased at most big box or auto parts stores.
The Freedom to Charge at Home
Perhaps the best gift an EV owner can receive is a home charger. If you have the money to spend on your EV lover, we recommend a Level 2 setup. This can provide a full charge in usually under 5 hours and is compatible with a 240V outlet (often used for large home appliances). This purchase is highly model-specific so find out what they drive and do your research. It’s bound to be their favorite gift of the season.
Hopefully we were able to offer enough good ideas to make your holiday shopping easier this year. If you have a great gift idea for EV enthusiasts, we’d love to hear about it – we’ll add it to the post.
